Church groundbreaking

By REV. KNOX HERNDON
Pastor

Last Sunday, Nov. 23, we had our long awaited church groundbreaking. It was truly a glorious day and one that we will cherish for a long time.

There is a song that warms the hearts of Christians around the world. It has been around for a while and I strongly feel that it is an “anointed” song by God Himself. It is the familiar song “Holy Ground.”

The chorus has the words, “We are standing on holy ground, and I know that there are angles all around; Let us praise Jesus now, we are standing in His presence on holy ground.” If you have been in church in the last 10 years, I'm sure you have heard it.

The reason I mention this is that my daughter Nikki and her fiance Jeramy Campbell sang that song for our groundbreaking ceremony which took us right to the “throne of grace.”

As we were preparing for this day, I wanted it to be very special and I was contemplating what type of momento we could give the congregation to take home and remember this wonderful day.

I had remembered a church giving people little viles of dirt from their groundbreaking ceremony so I set out to find some. I went to Michael’s in Fayetteville and found some small clear glass bottles, but they only had a few on the shelf. I kept looking and finally ran across some clear glass salt shakers. It must have been one of those God-directed moments we all get now and then because it crossed my mind that Jesus called His followers, the “salt of the earth.”

So on Sunday we all assembled at the large mound of dirt in front of our temporary building and each member scooped up their salt shaker of “holy ground.” This was one of those moments where only God makes something happen.

Several categories of photos were taken. There was the photo of the first four people who started the church — my wife Dee, my daughter Nikki and our son Robbie and me. Then we took a picture of our next member, Greg Mausz, who is our senior associate pastor. Then cutting the ribbon is Tommy Duncan, our general contractor; and then the best for last, our congregation.

There are some truly wonderful churches in the South Metro area. If you are not in one and looking for a good church come visit us or any of these glorious spiritual opportunities. To God be the Glory, great things He has done and is doing!
