The Marquis de Lafayette Chapter, Georgia Society, Sons of American Revolution, honored one of its own at a grave dedication ceremony.

It honored Major David Dickson, Revolutionary War soldier, who was buried in Fayette County in 1830. That portion of Fayette County became Clayton County in 1858.

Dickson was born in South Carolina in 1750 and was of Irish ancestry. He led his militiamen to fight in South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. His term of service ended in 1781 at which time he came to Georgia. He arrived in Fayette County in 1826 and his will was one of the first recorded here.

President of the Lafayette Chapter, Douglas H. Stansberry, served as spokesman for the event, which included representatives of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Children of the American Revolution, the Lafayette McLaws Camp, Sons of Confederate Veterans, and the Fayette County Historical Society.

Over 20 descendants of Dickson were on hand for the occasion and each placed a memento at his gravesite.
