Habitat walk tomorrow in Senoia

The Thompson family in Senoia is sponsoring the first “Walk for Humanity ... Mike’s Journey,” a 5K walk through the Senoia to benefit Newnan-Coweta Habitat for Humanity.

Michael Thompson, one of Habitat for Humanity’s loyal volunteers, lost his life to cancer last spring. Funds are currently being raised to build a house on the east side of the county to celebrate his life and memory. Contributions toward the project so far are over $11,000.

“We loved Michael at Habitat,” said Melanie Gross, executive director. “He was such a gift to our affiliate and to our families, always pleasant and an incredible worker. We consider it to be an honor that the family has chosen to celebrate his life through us.”

Suzanne Pengelly, president of the local Habitat affiliate, is a longtime friend of Michael, his wife Pat, and the Thompson family.

“God gave Michael one of the biggest hearts and he shared it with everyone he came in contact with,” said Pengelly. “The Thompson family is eager to pay tribute to Michael and the work with Habitat that he loved so much.”

Registration for the walk begins at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow at the Senoia Historical Society House on the corner of Couch and Plyant Streets in Senoia. The walk begins at the House at 10 a.m. The Newnan Home Depot will provide a refreshment stop along the way.

The registration fee is $15, and all participants will receive a T-shirt celebrating the event. All proceeds will go to the construction of a Habitat for Humanity home in East Coweta County.

If you have any questions, contact the Newnan-Coweta Habitat for Humanity office at 770-252-9049.
