Seabaugh hopes to find gold on his California trip

State Sen. Mitch Seabaugh (R-Sharpsburg) has his bags packed, and is hopeful of bringing business back to Georgia from California next week.

Seabaugh is headed to the Golden State to meet with leaders from some of the state’s movie studios. His mission is to encourage some of the filmmakers to bring their movie-making business back to Georgia.

Last week, Seabaugh held a meeting with the Coweta County Board of Education to update them with details for using Senoia’s Riverwood Studios as an expansion site for the Central education Center. He hopes that Hollywood’s power brokers share the school board’s excitement about the unique concept.

“This really has to be a team effort,” he said.

Seabaugh is hoping to get state-backed tax incentives to lure moviemakers back to the state and also fund the expansion of Central Education Center.

The Sharpsburg senator hopes to convince the legislature in January to pony up $4.75 million to pay for a 20-year pre-paid lease on the center.

“I want to do it pre-paid so this facility is not at the whims of the legislature every year,” he said.

The Coweta County Board of Education expressed enthusiasm about the project, especially since Seabaugh’s funding efforts won’t cause the school system any tax funds.

The board is in the process of forming a steering committee to study the proposal.

“I think this can be a win-win situation for everybody.”
