Don’t let your tree go up in smoke

Holiday safety tips public safety experts

Are you struggling to find the perfect gifts for those special people in your life? Well, have no fear. The gift-giving experts specializing in holiday safety have some gift ideas that will reduce your shopping stress and, most importantly, keep your loved ones safe.

Deck the halls this season with smoke detectors. They’re inexpensive to purchase, and are invaluable when needed. Get that extra smile by giving replacement batteries to keep smoke detectors in optimal working order.

When unattended, chestnuts roasting on an open fire could result in a holiday disaster. To keep the flames at bay, give family and friends fire extinguishers. Remember, nothing says, “I care!” more than receiving your own, personal household fire extinguisher.

Make holiday safety greeting cards to send your loved ones holiday wishes. For example, show Santa Claus sitting at his computer and include the text, “Look for the lock icon.” This will remind relatives and friends to use caution while shopping online. They should make sure they are familiar with the company and that the Web site is secure (has the privacy lock icon) before providing any payment information.

Another card, perhaps featuring Santa and an elf, could read, “Let me know where you are.” Those receiving this card will remember to share their travel and/or shopping plans with trusted friends, letting them know where they’re going, when they're going, and when they'll be back.

Finally, design a card the features a crook in a Santa suit. Insert the text, “Hide it & Lock it up,” to remind loved ones to keep gifts and valuables locked in the trunk of their car and out of sight while shopping.

So, when you make your list and check it twice, make sure smoke detectors, replacement batteries, fire extinguishers, and holiday safety greeting cards are a gift giving priority. And while you’re out buying these great gifts, don't forget to buy some of these special presents for your own home, too.
