Sen. Mitch Seabaugh will nominate students military college scholarships Sen. Mitch Seabaugh (R-Sharpsburg) will nominate outstanding high school seniors to be considered for two military college scholarships in Georgia. The State of Georgia offers these scholarships, the North Georgia Military Scholarship and the Georgia Military College State Service Scholarship, to members of Georgias high school graduating classes. Since only those students nominated by legislators in their respective Congressional Districts will be considered, interested students must submit their applications to Sen. Seabaugh to be considered a candidate. His nominations will come from the 8th, 11th, and 13th Congressional Districts. As a member of the Georgia General Assembly, I feel honored to be able to recommend extraordinary high school seniors to be considered for these two scholarships, stated Sen. Seabaugh. This is an excellent opportunity to reward students for their hard work and give them a head start on planning for his or her future. The North Georgia Military Scholarship provides scholarships to eligible Georgia high school seniors to attend North Georgia College and State University in Dahlonega. Scholarship awards cover the full cost of tuition, fees, room and board, books and supplies for up to four years. It also provides a substantial monthly paycheck for serving as a member of the Georgia Army National Guard while a full time student at North Georgia College and State University. The student repays the scholarship after receiving his or her bachelors degree by serving in the Georgia Army National Guard as a commissioned officer. At a minimum, applicants must have a 1010 SAT, a 3.0 college preparatory GPA, and be in excellent physical condition. The Georgia Military College State Service Scholarship provides scholarships to eligible Georgia high school seniors to attend Georgia Military College in Milledgeville. Scholarship awards cover the full cost of tuition, fees, room and board, books and supplies for two years. A selection committee composed of staff from the Georgia Student Finance Commission, the Georgia Army National Guard and from each college will screen the applicants and select nominees for each scholarship program. In 2004, there will be three students selected from each of the 13 Congressional Districts, for a total of 39 awards. Students who are interested in competing for these scholarships may obtain applications by contacting Sen. Mitch Seabaugh (404.656.6446 or by email at GAsenate28@aol.com), North Georgia College and State University (706.867.2767), Georgia Military College (478.445.2707), or the Georgia Student Finance Commission (770.724.9003 or 1-800-505-GSFC).
