Obituaries

Thelma M Deer


Thelma M. Deer, 88, Fayetteville, formerly of Indianapolis, Ind., died Nov. 8, 2003. She was born Sept. 25, 1915 in Indianapolis, Ind. Services were at the Parrott Funeral Home chapel with Deacon Jim Weeks officiating. Interment was at Holly Hill Memorial Park, Fairburn. Survivors include her husband, Jim V. Deer, Fayetteville; a son, James G. and Bridget Deer, Greenfield, Ind.; a daughter, Sandra and Bill Powers, Fairburn; grandchildren, Bob and Kathy Warden, and Cindy and Terry Webb; great-grandchildren, Drew, Alison, Kim, and Morgan; and a great-great-granddaughter, Ashlyn. Parrott Funeral Home, Fairburn, was in charge.

Shirley O’Connell


Shirley O’Connell, 56, Peachtree City, died Nov. 8, 2003. She was born Sept. 28, 1947 in Cook County, Ill. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Helen Nalepka, and a sister, Patricia Swindell. Services were at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with the Rev. Father John Walsh officiating. Survivors include her husband, Tom O’Connell, Peachtree City; a son, Tommy O’Connell, Peachtree City, attending the University of South Carolina; a brother, Richard Nalepka, Detroit, Mich.; an aunt to Matt, Dan, Carrie, Jim, Josh, Mary, Johnny, Jennie, Dawn, Lisa, Jimmy, Crystal, Nancy, Gentry, Joely, Emma, and Isaiah; and known as Mama OC to many others. Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home, Peachtree City, was in charge.

Horace K. Treadwell


Horace K. Treadwell, 85, Fayetteville, formerly of Murray County, Ga., died Nov. 9, 2003. He was born Jan. 28, 1919 in Murray County, Ga. Services were at the Tara Garden Chapel, Jonesboro, with interment at Sherwood Memorial Park, Jonesboro. Survivors include his wife, Wilma Treadwell; Fayetteville; and sons, Tommy Treadwell, and Ken Treadwell, both of Fayetteville. Tara Garden Chapel, Jonesboro, was in charge.

Louise Dorsey Patrick


Louise Dorsey Patrick, 92, died Nov. 10, 2003. A longtime resident of Fayetteville, she was recently living at Tavares, Fla. She had been a member of New Hope Baptist Church. A memorial service was held at Eustis, Fla., with remains interred at Conyers, Ga. Survivors include a daughter, Rachel Patrick Graves; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and sisters, Margaret Dorsey White, and Emily Dorsey Ford. Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home, East Point, was in charge.

Thurman Creel


Thurman Creel, 83, Jonesboro, Fayette County, died Nov. 11, 2003. He was born June 5, 1920 in Fulton County. Services were at McDonough Baptist Church with the Rev. Bobby Jones, the Rev. Dr. David Chancey, and the Rev. Dr. David Smith officiating. Interment was at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, College Park, Ga. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Davis Creel, Jonesboro; a son, Gary Creel, Los Angeles, Calif.; a daughter, Theresa and Phil Johnson, Newnan; stepsons, the Rev. Bobby and Christina Jones, LaGrange, Ga., and Brian and Brandi Jones, Wake Forest, N. C.; four grandchildren; a brother, Donald L. and Joan Creel, Logansville, Ga.; and a sister, Frances Hardy, Palmetto, Ga. Memorial donations may be made to the Brian Jones College Fund, Southern Federal Credit Union, 430 E. Lanier Ave., Fayetteville, GA 30214. Carl J. Richard Raymond Holland Sr.


Richard Raymond Holland Sr., 77, Jonesboro, formerly of Fayetteville and Columbus, Ga., died Nov. 13, 2003. He was born April 10, 1926 in Muscogee County, Ga. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Grady and Ruby Dean Holland; and brothers, G. W. Holland, Albert C. Holland, Walter M. Holland, and Ralph Harold Holland. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Fayetteville Camp, Gideons International, for many years. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Dr. Dean Haun and Lamar Branton officiating. Graveside services were also held at Park Hill Cemetery, Columbus, Ga. Survivors include his wife, Eleanor Inez Middlebrooks Holland, Jonesboro; children, Sharon Holland and George Edward Bartlett, Jonesboro, and Richard R. and Patricia Holland Jr., Acworth, Ga.; seven grandchildren; and brothers, John Milton Holland, Farmington, N. M., Robert Dean Holland, Cataula, Ga., and Earnest Lester Holland, Columbus, Ga. Mabel Vance


Mabel Vance, 88, Peachtree City, died Nov. 13, 2003. She was born Nov. 24, 1914 in Monroe, Ga. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Vance, and daughters, Barbara Vance Heaton and Linda Vance Spink. Services were at the Parrott Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Hamblen officiating. Interment was at Crest Lawn Memorial Park, Atlanta. Survivors include sisters, Dot Kitchens, Covington, Patricia Eudy, Carrollton, and Billie Sexton, Loganville; grandchildren, Gary and Debbie Heaton, Fayetteville, Carol and David Good, Peachtree City, and Ashley Spink, Athens; and great-grandchildren, Sarah Hooper, Amanda Heaton, and Daniel Heaton. Memorial donations may be made to the Fayette Senior Services, 390 Lee Street, Fayetteville, GA 30214. Parrott Funeral Home, Fairburn, was in charge.
