Adoption spotlighted this month November is National Adoption Month and over the next two issues, there will be a series of articles about adoption. Some of the aspects that will be covered will be both domestic and international adoptions, adoption attorneys and agencies, and more. It is estimated that 1.5 million of the children in United States are adopted. The last year that national adoption statistics were gathered was in 1992 by the National Center for State Courts. In 1992, 126,951 children were adopted through international, foster care, private agency, and step-parent adoptions. Through the 1990s an estimated 120,000 children were adopted each year. The number has likely gone up over the last decade, with more people considering international adoptions and foster care adoptions throughout the United States.
