Masonic lodge up for commercial rezoning Thurs.

The Fayetteville City Council will consider a commercial rezoning at its Thursday meeting for a 1.2 acre tract downtown that is currently zoned for multifamily use.

The property is currently occupied by the Fayetteville Masonic Lodge, fronts on West Lanier Avenue, Tiger Trail and West Stonewall Avenue. The parcel is owned by Fayetteville Community Foundations, Inc.

The city’s planning and zoning commission voted to recommend approval of the rezoning at its Oct. 28 meeting, reasoning that the C-1 Downtown Commercial designation is appropriate because it is compatible with the city’s Future Land Use Map.

The parcel is bordered to the east by apartments also zoned for multifamily use. Across the roadways, it is bordered to the west by an empty single family house on property also zoned multifamily and to the north by a single family house zoned R-30.
