Locos Deli and Pub moves to east side of Hwy. 314

Locos Deli and Pub has found a new location that should be more palatable to homeowners who fervently objected to their first site selection.

Developers have decided to move the location to the eastern side of Ga. Highway 314 near New Hope Road. The original plans were to locate on a site on the west side of Hwy. 314 south of the Bank of America, but residents in adjacent and nearby subdivisions objected to the pub, complaining that the location would cause public safety issues and harm their property values.

Residents particularly opposed the fact that alcohol would be served at the establishment, although developers argued that Locos is a restaurant, not a bar. Opponents of the original location even visited other Locos in the area to gain ammunition for their viewpoint.

The new site is currently a wooded vacant lot adjacent to the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, which is zoned Office-Institutional.

Plans for the site include eight feet wide sidewalks on all street frontages and 77 parking spaces including four handicap-accessible spaces.

A memo from city staff to the planning commission late last month indicated there were a number of outstanding issues with the site plans that need to be settled before staff can recommend the plans for approval.
