Vandals egg, spray-paint cars in PTC, even cops’

Peachtree City Police have identified several juveniles suspected of vandalizing autos in the city with paint and eggs, according to Police Chief James Murray. So far, Murray said, no arrests have been made.

Vandals even recently egged a patrol car while it was parked in the Ridgefield Condominiums parking lot recently Murray said. That was one of 20 such incidents reported to police since October 1.

“Vandalism is always a problem in the city,” Murray said, adding that as soon as one group of suspects is arrested, the vandalism stops for a while and then starts up again.

In the recent wave of vandalism, automobiles in the area surrounding Ridgefield Condominiums have been damaged with spray paint, paintballs shot from paintball guns and eggs, which can eat away at the vehicle’s exterior finish, Murray said.

The problem boils down to a lack of parental control for the young vandals, Murray said, noting that parents who must pay restitution ordered by the court can find themselves owing bills into the thousands of dollars.

“People need to teach their children to respect property,” Murray said. “It’s a matter of parents not knowing where their children are. It’s a serious problem.”

Incident reports indicate that autos were damaged in the following areas in the most recent wave of vandalism from the beginning of October until November 9: Augusta Drive, Holly Grove Church Road, Ambrose Lane, Muirfield Way, Loghouse Road, Bedford Park, Burgess Point, Redwood Park, Braelinn Court, Valley View, Prestwick, Rubicon Road, Village Park Drive, Robinson Road and McIntosh Trail.
