Writers to read at Manget Brannon

According to Stuart Perry of Newnan, the reading by local authors Nov. 15 he organized may be the last show to be held in the Manget Brannon Center for the Arts in Newnan, which is expected to close soon. The writers participating will be Perry himself, Edward L. Canada of Newnan, and Scott Shelton of Warrenton. The show, entitled “Corduroy vs. Denim. Finally: A Decision” will consist of these authors reading from their latest writings which deal with, in Perry’s words, “the down-to-earth realities of life and how to live it.”

All three of the participating writers have had short stories published in literary magazines and have given public readings of their writings. Perry and Canada are well known in the Coweta arts scene for their enthralling story telling at the Newnan Community Theatre Company and other Newnan venues. According to Perry, Scott Shelton is also worthy of being included in this reading because “he is an amazingly talented story-teller with the ability to hold an audience in the palm of his hand.” Perry has also had theatrical acting experience, his most recent one being his stunning performance of an Egyptian High Priest in this year's annual Grantville comic vampire drama “Barbara Nolan Meets The Mummy.”

Leah Cebulski was also involved in the Mummy play not only as an actress, playing the Egyptian student Farah Nebari, but also as the designer and constructor of its stage sets and the designer of her own stunning costume and make-over. She is currently a student at the Georgia State University working toward a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Cebulski, Perry, and Canada are all members of The Coweta Writers Group, which will be holding its monthly meeting on Thursday night Nov. 13 at the Newnan-Coweta Public Library on Hospital Road in Newnan, where the Sat. night Reading will be announced to the members.

Although the show will be relatively tame by most standards, it is probably a good idea to consider it an adults onlyâ performance. Everyone, however, is welcome to attend. Tickets are $3. The doors will open at 7 p.m. and the reading will take place at 7:30 p.m. ÊIn the lobby before the show, Leah Cebulski of Newnan will have some of her latest art work on display. Additional information on Saturday’s reading can be obtained by contacting Perry at 770-304-8502 or by email at stuartp@southernmills.com.
