Flood insurance on the decrease

Flood insurance rates in unincorporated Fayette County will be reduced by 15 percent effective May 1, 2004. Based on credit points verified the by Insurance Services Office, Inc., and upon acceptance by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Unincorporated Fayette County, Georgia will receive a Community Rating System (CRS) classification of 7.

The CRS Classification system consists of 10 classes and there is a 5 percent premium discount for every lower class. Class 10 receives no discount, Class 9 receives a five percent discount, and this continues down the line to a Class 1, which receives a 45 percent discount. A county’s or city’s classification is based on how well their flood plain management program is structured and administered. In Georgia, only one city has a class rating of 6, two cities have a class rating of 7, and only one other county has a class rating of 7. No county in the Atlanta Metro area has a class rating as low as Fayette County.
