Teen faces arson charge

A 15-year-old Whitewater High School student was arrested Tuesday for allegedly setting several small fires at Fayetteville United Methodist Church Sunday evening.

The boy, whose name was not released because he is a juvenile, was charged with first degree arson, a felony, and making terroristic threats, officials said. Other charges are pending, officials said.

The fire started inside the building, with multiple points of origin, officials said.

The investigation was conducted by several agencies including the Fayetteville Fire Department, the Fayette County Department of Fire and Emergency Services, the Fayetteville Police Department and the arson unit from the Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner’s Office.
