Members of the Covenant Presbyterian
Church, PCA, in Fayetteville invite the public to a special concert of
classical and Christian music this Sunday at 4:30 p.m., featuring renowned
organist Nicholas Bowden. He is the principal organist at the 10,000-member
Peachtree Presbyterian Church in Atlanta.
Covenant originally purchased the organ from Emanuel Presbyterian Church
in Atlanta. The purchase and installation cost was $12,000.
Church volunteers Bob Weaver, Sam Burch, church organist Martin Alexander,
and other members have worked on the organ since that time, adding pipes
and its range size. The organ now has approximately 1,400 pipes, ranging
in size from 1 inch to 16 feet; 15 miles of wire; it has two blowers,
5 reservoirs, and 13 wind chests. The organ originally had 14 speaking
ranks and has been enlarged to 28 ranks, a harp celeste and solid bar
Chimes. The two-manual console is the original console, built in 1925
by the Austin Organ Company of Hartford, Conn.
The concert is free and open to the public.
This is yet another service to our community, and we hope the concert
ministers to people as our guest organist presents a stellar musical program,
said pastor Dale Welden, who is celebrating his 15th year as pastor of
the church.
The 25-year old congregation of 350 members meets at 819 Highway 314 in
Fayetteville. For information call 770-460-9450.Music director Sam Burch
and master organ builder Bob Weaver stand in front of the organ the church
has been enlarging for the past 10 years. Located in the Covenant Presbyterian
Church, it will be featured during a concert this Sunday. The grill work
was hand cut and installed by Weaver.
