Search is on for stolen casket

A real casket was spirited away from a spooky Halloween display in Fayetteville Thursday night, and there’s a $100 reward for its safe return.
And it just might be haunted, too.
Tom Dobbs, who lives on Lester Road, got the casket from a friend in the funeral business. It had been damaged when the deceased was lowered into the ground, and the family told the funeral company to put their loved one in a new casket, Dobbs said.
Dobbs has used it for his Halloween displays ever since.
“The kids loved the thing and folks in the neighborhood who drove by,” Dobbs said, explaining why he’s offering the reward. “It was the centerpiece of the display, which is now just some tombstones and a skeleton hanging from a flag pole.”
Dobbs is wishing he’d have listened to his wife, Linda, who told him not to put it too close to the road for fear it’d be stolen.
A report on the incident has been filed with the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department. Anyone with information on the casket’s whereabouts should call the department at 770-461-5266.
