Fayette's new mountain hideaway

Driving on Ga. Highway 85 doesn’t usually conjure up images of fresh mountain streams and spectacular mountain views, but the newest restaurant in the county is hoping residents discover it as a respite from the often-busy traffic on the road.

Just south of the county’s homage to capitalism, Fayette Pavilion, Bugaboo Creek Steak House opened for business a few weeks ago. Residents have been flocking to the place in record numbers, drawn by the newness, and perhaps the statue of the moose that greets you in the parking lot.

Once inside, the restaurant is meant to evoke the feeling of a Canadian mountain lodge. It’s named for the Bugaboo range in the Canadian Rockies, and various antlers mounted on walls make sure you get the message that this is a mountain resort.

The restaurant also features talking heads on the wall, such as a moose, which can be unnerving at times, but don’t let the gabby critters deter you from an excellent meal.

By all means, try the Lodge filet. This steak almost literally melts in your mouth, and a knife is almost rendered superfluous by the tenderness of the cut.

Other steak choices include a Black Magic steak, which features Cajun seasonings; a 14-ounce Montreal Ribeye with dusted with spices and topped with mushrooms and onions and prime rib in 10, 12 and 16 ounce portions.

If you really want a taste of the Rockies, try the grilled rainbow trout. It can be prepared with either Cajun or lemon pepper seasoning and is just one of the seafood offerings.

Bugaboo also serves a variety of pastas and desserts, and lunch also features a delicious variety of sandwiches, including a yummy Cuban sandwich.

Instead of spending the money flying to Canada or fighting the traffic to north Georgia, just head north of Fayetteville for a quick mountain getaway.
