His car up on its side after he wrecked on Peachtree Parkway near McIntosh Trail Wednesday morning, Jared Smith remembered wondering if anyone was going to stop and help him.

Smith, 24, of Fayetteville, saw several vehicles pass by as if a vehicle on its side “was nothing new” before someone stopped and called 911.

“I was just looking out my window and people kept driving by until someone stopped,” Smith said. “... It was a good two or three minutes before someone stopped.”

Paramedics from the Peachtree City Fire Department responded and after making sure he was okay, Smith was allowed to shimmy out of the broken rear windshield of his car. He emerged relatively unscathed.

“I don’t know what I would have done if I would have hit somebody,” Smith said. “I definitely had somebody looking out for me.”

Smith said he just lost control of the vehicle as he was driving northbound on Peachtree Parkway. He was going to Booth Middle School, where he works as a custodian while he’s getting his degree from Clayton College and State University with plans to become a teacher.
