BikeFest coming to Coweta this weekend

The Georgia BikeFest is returning to Coweta County Oct. 10-12 for a weekend of autumn bicycling. There are long and short ride options each day, and all cyclists and their families are invited to participate.

On Friday, routes are the “Turin More Land” Ride to Moreland, Sharpsburg, Turin, and Senoia. On Saturday, plans include the “Little Brown Jug” Ride to Grantville, Greenville, and Luthersville, and on Sunday, it’s the “Dunaway Gardens” Ride to Welcome, Sargent, and Roscoe.

BRAG participants will be staying at Newnan High School, either outside or indoor gym camping, or at various hotels in Newnan.ÊThe event usually draws 800 bicycle riders from across the state.

“This is BRAG’s third year holding the event in Newnan.ÊThey pump over $150,000 into our community in a three day period, and we are very grateful to have them.ÊThey love Newnan, and we hope they will keep coming back,” said Linda Bridges, Business Development Director.Ê

In conjunction with BRAG and Newnan’s 175th anniversary celebration, many activities are planned throughout the weekend.Ê

A street dance is set for tonight on the north side of the courthouse square. Atlanta’s Banks and Shane are the featured entertainment.ÊThe fun begins at 7 p.m., and admission is free.ÊÊÊ

The downtown Newnan Car Cruise-In will take place tomorrow from 6-9 p.m. on the courthouse square. This will be the last one for the season so citizens are encouraged to come downtown to enjoy the evening and view classic cars.
