Builders assn. installs new officers

Mac McKinney of McKinney Builders Inc. was installed as president of the Home Builders Association of Midwest Georgia at the organization’s September meeting, held at RCS in Fayetteville.

Installing the new president and other 2003-2004 officers and directors of the association was Greg Wallace, president of the Home Builders Association of Georgia. Serving with McKinney as officers are Mike Kruse, Mike Kruse Contractor Inc., vice president; Greg Lewis, Walker Concrete, associate vice president; Jeff Waddle, David Weekley Homes, secretary/treasurer; and Chad Floyd, Chadwick Homes Inc., immediate past president.

Builder directors include Gene Barber, Gene Barber Contracting Inc.; Bob Barnard, Barnard & Associates Remodeling Inc.; Jeff Betsill, Jeff Betsill Homes; Mike Daughtry, Hilpine Builders Inc.; Dennis Floyd, Chadwick Homes Inc.; John Hayes, Bowen Builders Group; Randy Hayes, Hayes Development Corp.; Kenny Johnson, Kenny Johnson Homes Inc.; Eddie Lusher, Jerry Ballard Homes; and Jerry Tedder, Jerry Tedder Company; all of whom are also designated as past president directors except for Daughtry. Richard Simms of Richard Simms Homes is also a past president director, while Patsy Dunagan, J. Smith Lanier Insurance Co.; Eric Smith, The Bank of Georgia; Liz Taylor, BancMortgage Financial Corp.; and Lang Thompson, Fairburn Ready-Mix Inc. are associate directors, and Jeff Carrier of Sharon McSwain Homes represents the Sales & Marketing Council on the board. Barnard, Betsill, Dennis Floyd, Randy Hayes, Johnson, Lusher and Tedder are state directors; Dennis Floyd, Randy Hayes, Johnson and Barnard are national directors; Lusher is alternate national director; and Barber and Tedder are life national directors.

Immediate Past President Chad Floyd was recognized for his contributions, and he told association members that serving in the leadership position has “helped me grow as a business person and citizen in this community.”

New President McKinney talked about his goals for the new association year, including putting together an entertaining and informative schedule of programs for meetings. He added that the next golf tournament would feature a radio remote broadcast from the site of the event.

Other goals included continuation of the Christmas Open House at the association office with plans to collect contributions of cash and goods to help a needy family in each county served by the HBA; as well as placing more emphasis in the association’s governmental affairs committee and taking a more active role in issues affecting the housing industry.

McKinney also announced that the association plans to build a house for the upcoming Street of Dreams, to be held at River Oaks on Ga. Highway 74 in Fayette County.
