Horne to run for House

Newnan resident Billy Horne will be a candidate in the Republican primary for Georgia House District 86, which includes much of eastern and northeastern Coweta County and part of Peachtree City in Fayette County. This district is currently served by Lynn Westmoreland, who has announced his candidacy for the Congressional seat currently held by Mac Collins.

“I am excited about this campaign,” said Horne. “We live in a great area with much to offer, and I look forward to meeting the people of this district and talking with them about the issues they care about.”

Billy has been active in grassroots politics for several years. He served in various capacities on the Coweta Republican Party Executive Committee, and currently chairs the Coweta County GOP. By rule, he must resign that post to run for office. He says that his political experience is one of his strengths.

“It has been a pleasure serving as an official with the Republican Party," he said. "The people I have met and the experience I have gained influencing policy and getting Republicans elected will help me serve Coweta and Fayette counties in the State Legislature.”

A Web site will soon be available that outlines Horne’s philosophies and values and gives citizens an opportunity to define the most important issues facing Coweta and Fayette Counties. Right now, he can be contacted by e-mail at billyhorne04@yahoo.com or by phone at 770-683-4676.

“We have an idea of what issues are important, but we want to hear from the people," he said.

Horne is active in the community as well. He serves as a Trustee at Cornerstone United Methodist Church and is a member and former director of the Newnan Rotary Club. Horne also serves on the Leadership Coweta Board of Directors.

Horne is employed as the engineering manager for Alternate Energy Systems, Inc., of Peachtree City. He attended high school in Fayette County, graduated from Auburn University with a degree in mechanical engineering, and from Georgia State University with an MBA. He has been a resident of Coweta County since 1996, and is married to the former Jenni Adkins of Birmingham. They have two children.
