Monday, Oct. 6, is the deadline for registering to vote in time for the Nov. 4 municipal elections.

Fayetteville Mayor Ken Steele and Councilman Glenn Brewer are unopposed, with two others qualifying to run for the seat held by Councilman Bill Talley, who is declining to run for a second term. Paul Oddo, an accountant, and Wilson Price, an employee of Delta Air Lines, are running for Talley's seat.

In Peachtree City, two seats on the City Council are up for grabs. Three candidates are in the running for the Post 1 seat held by longtime councilmember Annie McMenamin. They are Judi-Ann Rutherford, office manager of the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater; James J. Adduci, owner of Martini's in Westpark Walk; and Lee H. Poolman, who works in the Fulton County government finance department.

Incumbent Dan Tennant, a regional sales manager for an ID company, is trying to reclaim his Post 2 seat. His challenger is Stuart Kourajian, a senior project manager in the computer systems department of SunTrust Bank.

Peachtree City voters will also be asked to approve a $4.9 million bond referendum to expand the city's library.

In Tyrone, residents will have one decision to make, deciding whether liquor by the drink should be allowed in town. Councilman Ray Bogenschutz elected to step down from his position this fall, leaving resident Lyn Redwood unopposed for his seat.

Voter registration forms are available at area libraries and city halls and can be mailed or hand-delivered to the county Board of Registrars office. The registration forms require complete name, residence address, mailing address, if different; county of residence; social security number (confidentiality maintained); date of birth, and signature or mark. Optional information includes race, gender and telephone number.

Here are the requirements for registering to vote:

·Be a resident of the county in which you register.

·Be a citizen of the United States.

·Not be serving a sentence for a conviction of a felony involving moral turpitudeand not have been adjudicated mentally incompetent.

In Georgia, you do not have to register by political party to vote.

Voters are required to notify the board of registrars of their county of residence whenever they move. If you move within the same county in which you are registered to vote and don't notify the registrar at least 30 days prior to an election, you may vote in your old polling place for that election. You must file a notice of your new address. This can be done by writing your county board of registrars' office, or by submitting a new voter registration application.

If you move outside the county in which you are registered to vote within 30 days of an election, you may vote in your old precinct for that election only.

If you move outside the county in which you are registered to vote in excess of 30 days prior to an election, you have lost your eligibility to vote in the county of your old residence. You must register to vote in your new county of residence. If you don't register to vote by the deadline, you cannot vote in that particular election.
