Cathy's compound could grow

The southwest part of Fayette County could soon be home to a personal and business retreat for one of Atlanta's corporate citizens.

Chick-fil-A president Dan Cathy is headed to the Fayette County Planning Commission tomorrow night to unveil plans for a business and personal retreat on his Peeples Road property.

Cathy owns about 357 acres in the southern part of the county, said county zoning director Kathy Zeitler, and is looking to add more buildings to the property.

He wants to rezone 67 acres from A-R to PUD-PRL, Planned Retreat or Lodge. Zeitler said the development consists of existing A-R uses, including a residence, barn, shop, pool/guest house and proposed uses including a lodge, and outdoor auditorium.

Zeitler said he has to rezone the property because A-R only allows a 900 sq. ft. guest house, and Cathy wants a 1,200 sq. ft. house.

"He wants to use the new uses for company that he has on the property," she said.

Since he's proposing a PUD zoning, Thursday's meeting is only a preliminary meeting with the Planning Commission to look at the plans.

If the commission makes any changes to the plan, he would then come back before the Planning Commission, possibly as soon as November, she added.

The quickest the County Commission would make a decision on the rezoning would be in December, Zeitler said.

The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at the county's administrative complex on Stonewall Avenue.
