PTC forms team to manage switch of tennis center, amphitheater By J. FRANK LYNCH
A transition team made up of three of Peachtree City's highest-ranking employees has been formed to address the most pressing issues surrounding change in management duties at the Fred Brown Jr. Amphitheater and Peachtree City Tennis Center. City Manager Bernard McMullen, Assistant City Manager Colin Halterman, and Leisure Services Director Randy Gaddo are leading the team effort, said Betsy Tyler, city spokeswoman. They are joined by Sean Ferreira, senior pro at the Tennis Center, and Donna Romeo, amphitheater director. Both Ferreira and Romeo are currently employees of the Development Authority of Peachtree City. The immediate task, said Tyler, is to take care of the DAPC employees. McMullen met with workers at both venues last Friday and plans to meet with them on a regular basis until the transition is complete at the end of October. "The mood was somber, but Mr. McMullen basically explained told the employees that the city's intent is to keep the facilities open and operating," said Tyler. "They have a lot of questions, but we don't have a lot of answers at the moment. He did pledge to keep them informed of the progress made on a weekly basis. "We're still in the discovery phase," she said. Among the issues addressed is the status of DAPC employees, whether full- or part-time, and whether it makes sense to privatize some of the management duties. "But no decisions have been made," said Ballard. "It's too early." The amphitheater's summer concert series concluded with last week's Hall and Oates appearance. An Oct. 11 concert by Spryo Gyra concludes the jazz series and is the last major concert scheduled for the year. There are no major tournaments pending at the Tennis Center, said Tyler. "So we have a little more time," said Tyler, though the deadline for the transition set by the DAPC is Oct. 30.
