Former doctor found guilty of sexual battery By JOHN
MUNFORD
A former Fayetteville obstetrician and gynecologist was convicted Tuesday of making inappropriate physical advances towards two employees at his local clinic, which has since been shut down. Dr. Orlando Cano, 66, was convicted Tuesday afternoon of two misdemeanor counts of sexual battery by a six-person Fayette County State Court Jury. The conviction has been reported to the Georgia board that licenses physicians so a determination can be made on whether Cano's license to practice medicine can be revoked, Solicitor General Steve Harris said Wednesday. One employee testified that Dr. Cano touched her breasts and another testified that he touched her breasts and buttock. Cano did not testify but his attorney argued that the incidents didn't occur, but he may have brushed too close to the women in the "crowded" office environment. One of the victims lives in Stockbridge and the other lives in McDonough. Sentencing in the case has been scheduled for Monday, Oct. 13.
