Peachtree City Police arrested a man Thursday who held five people at bay with a butcher knife at the Ridgefield condominium complex.

Police said Christopher Ferrante, 21, of Peachtree City threatened to kill the five victims during a drug-fueled rage that ended after one of the victims leaped off the balcony and went to call 911.

Ferrante told officers he had taken some narcotics prior to the incident "that messed me up," police said. Narcotics have a tendency to induce paranoia and hallucinations, said Police Chief James Murray.

Ferrante was charged with five counts of aggravated assault, five counts of kidnapping, five counts of making terroristic threats and one count of possession of methamphetamine.

Officers noticed the condo was in disarray when they first entered the home, with holes in the wall and overturned furniture, Murray said. By that time, Ferrante had dropped the weapon and was unarmed, Murray added.

Ferrante struggled with officers as they tried to arrest him, and one officer had to administer pepper spray so they could get Ferrante under control, Murray said.

Two of the victims were living at Ferrante's residence where the incident occurred, according to warrants filed for his arrest.
