Dog Park hopes new site will please everyone By MICHAEL

They say that the third time is the charm and the committee for the Peachtree City Dog Park certainly hopes so. Dog Park Chairman Fred Bryant addressed the Peachtree City Recreation Commission Monday night with their third proposed site for a park. The original plan was to go near the Kedron Aquatic Center but there were too many problems with the site, chief among them a runoff problem that could have adversely affected the water supply. Next, they suggested a spot near the Baseball/Soccer Complex on Ga. Highway 74 south. This site had them screened from the highway, put them away from any subdivisions in the area and gave them a good deal of parking and space, but opponents suggested that parking was limited due to the people using the athletic fields and were concerned over dogs ruining the fields. The new proposed site for the dog park is southeast of the BMX track near the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater. The dog park will be on three acres of land and is far away from area subdivisions. The $5,000 that the city donated to the dog park committee will still be used to put in a water line and drinking fountain for owners and their dogs. The dog park will not have evening hours of operation and though a minimal amount of trees may have to be cleared, the dog park committee does not feel that there will be any need for grading the area. The committee is working with the people who use the BMX track to make sure any concerns are addressed. The committee was seeking a vote of confidence from the Recreation Commission so that they could bring it before City Council this week. Members of the commission were pleased with the new plans but wanted the dog park committee to get an endorsement from the nature conservancy, which has a trail near the amphitheater, before they would sign off on the new site. Bryant agreed to talk with the nature conservancy and to "do the project right, so they wouldn't have to come back before the commission again." The dog park and their new site will likely come before city council within the next month.
