Obituaries

David Ricker


David Jonathan Ricker, 16, Newnan, died Sept. 4, 2003. He was born Nov. 13, 1986 in Fulda, Germany.
Services were at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints’ Side Room with Bishop Brian Clark officiating. Interment was at Brigham City Cemetery, Brigham City, Utah.
Survivors include his parents, David and Carolyn Ricker, Newnan; brothers, Jacob Ricker, Benjamin Ricker, and Sam Ricker; and a sister, Rebekah Ricker. McKoon Funeral Home, Newnan, was in charge.

Grace Phillips


Grace L. Phillips, 77, College Park, died Sept. 9, 2003. She was born Nov. 9. 1925 in Cherokee County.
Services were at the Parrott Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Dean Haun officiating. Interment was at Holly Hill Memorial Park, Fairburn.
Survivors include a son, Larry and Janet Phillips, Stockbridge; daughters, Ann and Richard Harper, St. George Island, Fla., Gail and Joe Dunlap, Sharpsburg, and Patricia and Randy Barrett, Fairburn; a sister, Shirley Evans, Fairburn; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Parrott Funeral Home, Fairburn, was in charge.

India Parker


India Smith Parker, 89, Newnan, died Sept. 10, 2003. She was born Dec. 31, 1913 in Dawson County, the daughter of Rex and Ola Mae Grindle. She was preceded in death by husbands, Frank Smith, and J. D. Parker, a son, Frank Smith, daughters, Ella Mae and Katie Ruth, and four grandchildren. She spent most of her life in East Point where she as a member of Center Park Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, and cooking.
Services were at the Jones Funeral Home chapel with interment at Holly Hills Cemetery, Fairburn, Ga.
Survivors include a son, Joel and Faye Smith, Atlanta; daughters, Hattie and Bobby Barr, Covington, Wilma Griffin, East Point, Mildred and Earnest Thompson, Palmetto, and Betty and Jim Wheeler, Newnan; brothers, Ford Grindle, and R. D. Grindle, both of Gainesville; a sister, Annie Mae Crumley, Gainesville; 21 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
Jones Funeral Home, Newnan, was in charge.

Florine Johnson


Florine Bowie Johnson, 75, Newnan, died Sept. 11, 2003. She was born July 16, 1928, the daughter of Ernest Lee and Susie Kate Madaris Bowie. She had been employed at Playtex for 10 years prior to her association with Dr. John Wells at his clinic, where she retired after 29 years of service. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Newnan, and a member of the Love Sunday School Class.
Services were at the McKoon Funeral home, with the Rev. Dr. Gene Tyre and the Rev. Jerry Walker officiating. Interment was at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Newnan.
Survivors include her husband, James Herschel Johnson; a daughter, Rosalind and Jimmy Tollerson, Newnan; and a granddaughter, Susie Tollerson.

Joyce Holmes


Joyce Holmes, 87, Newnan, died Sept. 13, 2003. She was born Sept. 5, 1916 in Newnan, one of seven daughters of William Pendleton and Nora Mayes Hood Holmes. She had always worked in the casualty office of the United States Army at Fort McPherson. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Newnan.
Services were at the McKoon Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Gary Parrish, the Rev. Terry Thompkins, and the Rev. Larry Patton officiating. Interment was at Oak Hill Cemetery, Newnan.
Survivors include sisters, Madge Holmes, Newnan, and Margaret Keith, Clearwater, Fla.
