Gordon enrollment includes large Fayette contingent

More than 300 Fayette Countians are amond the 3,431 students enrolled this fall at Gordon College in Barnesville, as the school experiences a 10 percent enrollment increase over last fall.

Only Henry County, with 612 students, has more at Gordon than Fayette, with 355. More than half of the students attending Gordon College are from the metropolitan Atlanta area.

In addition to its campus in Barnesville, Gordon College offers courses at the Lafayette Educational center in Fayetteville.

According to President Lawrence Weill, this is the highest annual increase in four years. Two-thirds of the fall 2003 class are full-time students, and 81 percent of those students are under the age of 25.

“We are pleased to see this growth in both our new and returning student populations. Gordon College appeals to students for many reasons, but I think the college’s ability to meet student needs is at the forefront,” said Patricia Lemmons, director of enrollment services. “Our graduates talk about the personal attention and interaction with faculty they experience while on campus. This caring community is what parents seek for their children and I expect that enrollment will only continue to climb as more and more people learn about the quality education available to them in Barnesville.”

Gordon College is a two-year unit of the University System of Georgia and has residential housing available for students. Long listed as one of the fastest growing two-year colleges in the state, the school has experienced nine consecutive years of growth in enrollment.
