Sandy Creek student, 16, struck by car, critically hurt A 16-year-old student from Sandy Creek High School remained in critical condition Tuesday after he was struck by an automobile while walking on Jenkins Road after school Monday afternoon. Deputies do not anticipate filing charges against the driver, a 16-year-old girl who also goes to Sandy Creek, said Capt. Bryan Woodie of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department. She tried to avoid hitting the young man but could not do so before the 2001 VW Beetle struck the victim, he said. The names of the driver and the victim were not available at press time because the accident report had not been completed. Although the investigation is not complete, it appeared that the victim was walking in the road and not crossing it, Woodie said. The incident occurred at the bridge on Jenkins Road which crosses over the CSX railroad track around 3:50 p.m., Woodie said. Blood samples were taken from both the driver and the victim to determine if either was intoxicated at the time of the incident, although there is no indication drugs or alcohol were involved, Woodie added.
