Fville grocery store evacuated briefly after oven fire

The Ingles supermarket in Fayetteville was evacuated briefly Thursday morning after a small fire occurred in an oven, fire officials said.

The fire, which was reported to the Fayette County 911 Center just before 11:30 a.m. did not spread beyond the oven, said Fayetteville Fire Chief Alan Jones.

Employees used a dry chemical fire extinguisher on the flames before firefighters arrived, Jones noted.

The building was reopened soon after firefighters responded. Employees were cooking fried chicken in the oven when the incident occurred, Jones added.
