WASA approves budget for 2004 capital improvement programs By MICHAEL
BOYLAN
It had been a while since the Peachtree City Water and Sewerage Authority had had a meeting. The group convened Monday night and approved the budget for the capital improvement program for fiscal year 2004 after a summer hiatus. The total cost of the projects is estimated to be $6,662,000 and WASA has $6,785,000 left from the bonds they sold. Among the capital improvement programs scheduled for 2004 are a power generator for the Rockaway plant which is estimated to cost $250,000 and replacement of a building at Line Creek that is 32 years old and has leaks and some structural damage, which is estimated to cost $150,000. General manager Larry Turner felt that the replacement needed to be done as lab equipment inside needed to be protected better and that the staff that worked inside at all hours of the day also needed a better venue for performing daily operational tests. Other projects include manhole rehabilitation of the 75 manholes in town for $150,000 and $100,000 for a pond fence near Line Creek and Stallings Road which will keep vehicles out. "We have recently had a problem with what I'd call vandalism," said Turner. He explained that four-wheelers were driving in the area, which is prohibited, and that other staff members had seen pick-up truck tracks in the area. The fence that they would put up in the area would only be able to keep out vehicles. Members of WASA passed the budget for the 2004 capital improvement programs with the understanding that before any money could be spent on any of these projects they would have to come before a vote by the authority.
