USTA honors Tennis Center The Peachtree City Tennis Center has been recognized by the United States Tennis Association as anOutstanding Public Tennis Center, and representatives of the Center traveled to New York last week during the U.S. Open to accept the award. Selection is based on overall layout and adaptation to site; excellence of court surface and lights; ease of maintenance; accommodations for players, spectators, media and officials; USTA membership; aesthetics; amenities; and programs supporting the USTA and growth of the game. Winners are selected from each of five categories: small tennis centers (two-10 courts), large tennis centers (11 or more courts), collegiate tennis centers, public tournament tennis centers with permanent stadium seating and field courts, and public USTA Organizational member facilities which support USTA and other growth of the game programs. The Peachtree City Tennis Center was the only facility in the nation given the additional recognition of Tournament Host Facility. In 2003, the Center was the only facility to host three collegiate events, including a collegiate national championship; three junior events, including a junior national championship and a junior national schedule event; an adult state championship; and a USTA Professional Challenger. Award winners will receive a plaque, a sign suitable for display at each facility, and a one-year organizational membership to the USTA. Names of each winner will be inscribed on a plaque in the lobby of the USTA National Tennis Center, home of the US Open.
