Three candidates throw hats into ring Candidates have until 4:30 p.m. today to qualifying to run for one of two Peachtree City Council seats up for grabs in November. The qualifying period opened Monday and continues for five business days. As of press time Thursday, three candidates had filed the formal paperwork at City Hall to qualify: · Dan Tennant, the only incumbent in the race, qualified Monday morning to seek re-election to Post 2. He's trying to reclaim his Post 2 seat, to which he was first elected in 1999. · Judi-ann Rutherford, 52, also filed Monday to run in the Post 1 seat currently held by Annie McMenamin, who cannot run again due to term limits. Rutherford is an 8-year resident of the city and office manager at the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater. Her employer is The Development Authority of Peachtree City, which manages the amphitheater. · Stuart Kourajian, 43, who lists his occupation as a "project manager", qualified Thursday and said he would challenge Tennant for the Post 2 seat. Kourajian, a resident of The Estates, has lived in Peachtree City for 15 years. Betsy Tyler, the city's public information officer, said Thursday that if history holds true, more candidates will likely come forward to qualify in the final hour Friday, taking advantage of the dramatics. But qualifying absolutely ends at 4:30 p.m., she said. The election is Tuesday, Nov. 4.
