Newnan High celebrates homecoming next week

The Cougar Carnival comes to Coweta County the week of Sept. 15-19 for Newnan High School's homecoming.

The week's activities culminate when the Cougars play Carver at Drake Stadium Friday, Sept. 19, at 7:30 p.m. At halftime, the homecoming queen will be crowned, and winners of the window painting, the door decorations, and the best float will be announced.

The homecoming parade will wind through the streets of downtown Newnan the day of the game beginning at 4 p.m. near McKoon's Funeral Home and ending at Newnan High School. Each class enters a float, hoping to be named the best in the parade.

Following the parade, the community is invited to purchase a Sprayberry's barbeque plate dinner at $7 per plate to support the Band Boosters. Please call 770-254-2885 for ticket information. The dinner will be served in the Newnan High School cafeteria.

The community is also invited to attend a pep rally Sept. 18 in the gym with preliminary activities at 6 p.m. and the pep rally at 7 p.m. Cougar souvenirs will be given away at the door to children.

Store windows will be painted in downtown Newnan by different clubs from Newnan High School as the spirit of homecoming spreads into the community the week of Sept. 15. Visitors to Newnan High School will see decorations on classroom doors cheering the Cougars on to victory.

The art department held a T-shirt design contest for this year's homecoming. Elizabeth Turner, sophomore at Newnan High, created the winning design. These T-shirts are on sale before and after school in the front lobby from 8-8:30 a.m. and from 3:30-4 p.m. for $8.

A different theme each day of the week promotes school spirit and encourages students to join the fun during homecoming week. Students are encouraged to dress for: College/Hat Day (Monday), Tacky Day (Tuesday), Costume/Twin Day (Wednesday), Cougar Carnival Day (Thursday), and Cougar Day (Friday).
