Wednesday, September 10, 2003 Foster kids decked out with new school backpacks Prudential Atlanta/Georgia Realty once again held its Backpack Challenge to benefit area foster children. This is the third year the company has been involved with the Backpack Challenge, which is held in conjunction with Prudential Connection and Prudential Financial. The metro Atlanta real estate firm collected a record 431 filled backpacks. The majority of these went to CHRIS Homes and Creative Community Services as part of the 551 total backpacks donated by Prudential companies. A small number of the backpacks collected by Prudential Atlanta/Georgia Realty were also given to Cobb County DFCS (Department of Family & Children Services), Jackson County DFCS, Roswell-based Foster Care Support Foundation, Inc., and Brumby Elementary School. Prudential Atlanta/Georgia Realty's president and CEO, Dan Forsman, was humbled to see how much members of his company got behind this worthy cause. "We had more than 400 backpacks donated and our company has 900+ sales associates," he said. "One location, our 85 North office, had 100 percent participation from its sales team." The real estate firm also had alliance partners, builders, and vendors ready to lend their support. Donations came in from HomeBanc, McCalla, Raymer law firm, RealtyEase, Georgia Realty Insurance Services, Office Depot, Supply Specialties, Vee Kelly, Xerographic, Graphcom, Quartero Properties, Brighton Custom Homes, K Quality Homes, BEC, LLC, Fuqua Construction, Blue Pond Homes, Royce Builders, and Greenleaf Development. The Roswell-based restaurants Brookwood Grill, Macaroni Grill, and My Friend's Place donated gift certificates for a drawing to be held from the names of those who donated money or a backpack. "The Backpack Challenge has become a much anticipated annual tradition," stated Forsman. "A simple gift of a backpack with school supplies and toiletry items can make a huge difference in a foster child's life."
