Julia Nelson has been named Realtor of the Year by the Newnan-Coweta Board of Realtors.Nelson is a real estate agent with Keller Williams Realty working out of their Peachtree City office.

Nelson was nominated for the honor by her peers on the local board. She was selected based on her professional performance as an agent and her involvement in the community.Nelson is currently a state director representing the Newnan-Coweta Board of Realtors with the Georgia Association of Realtors, a position she has held for two years.Previous to that she served as a local director with the Newnan-Coweta Board of Realtors for two years.

Nelson is also fundraising chairperson for the local board, a position she has held twice. She oversees the fundraising committee's work to support continuing education for agents, scholarships for high school students, and local charities.

"Julia is a very savvy business women, and she has raised more money than we ever dreamed we'd have," said Joanne Lamar, Association Executive for the Newnan-Coweta Board of Realtors. "Each time she's chaired this committee we've set a new fundraising record. She's helped put a lot of folks through college."

Nelson is also the local chairperson for the Georgia Association of Realtors' Realtor Political Action Committee.

Nelson and her husband Eric have lived in the Senoia and Sharpsburg area since 1997.They have five children, ranging in age from seven to 18, and the family attends Crossroads Church.

Nelson's success has not only resulted in more customers, but also a new partner from inside her family.Eric, who recently left Northwest Airlines, has just completed his real estate course and will be working with her at Keller Williams.

Nelson has been with Keller Williams since February of this year, after working four years with Lindsey's.

"I like Keller Williams' extensive training and opportunities for growth," she said."Keller Williams is one of the fastest growing franchises in the United States."

As evidence of that growth, Nelson points to the fact that the local Keller Williams office has only covered Coweta County since 2001, and yet it already has the second highest number of listings of any real estate agency.

In addition to her home county of Coweta, Nelson has listings in several local counties, including Fayette, Meriwether, South Fulton and Troup. "Since I have listings with six different builders, I sell homes in several different price brackets, from starter houses to custom built," she said.

Nelson's choice as Realtor of the Year is a double honor for Keller Williams, which is now enjoying a streak; last year's winner was also a Keller Williams agent, Debbie Burdett.Burdett and broker/owner Steve Freeman surprised Nelson at their Agent Leadership Council meeting with the announcement of her award.Nelson received a bouquet of roses from Burdett and a standing ovation from her peers.

"It's very appropriate to get red roses," said Nelson, "since our slogan is 'Paint the Town Red.'"
