PTC parks still in need of a few good adoptees

Since the Peachtree City Recreation Department's "Adopt-A-Park" Program, began in April 2000, nearly 40 residents, groups or organizations have come forward to "adopt" a total of 24 parks and tot lots.

But that doesn't come close to filling the need, said Joyce Williams, Adopt-A-Park representative for the recreation department.

"Some of our parks just about have around the clock service since they have been adopted and are consistently being cleaned by several groups," Williams said.

More than one individual, group or organization can adopt the same park. Some parks have more than one adoptee and each particular group may choose to do a cleanup at the beginning, middle, or end of the month providing continual service, Williams explained.

Participants in the program agree to pick up litter or debris once a month and are recognized for their efforts by an Adopt-A-Park sign at the park with the name of the individual, organization, or business.

The Recreation Department has several areas not yet adopted including Big Pine Park, Kedron Boat Docks and Rockspray Pond.

In addition, several areas within larger parks are also available for adoption, the South 74 Soccer/Baseball Complex and Jim Meade Fields among them.

For information on joining the Adopt-A-Park program, call Williams at the Recreation Administration Ofce, Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 770-631-2542.
