A Fayetteville man faces criminal charges after fighting with sheriff's deputies early Sunday morning as they were conducting a welfare check on a residence on Ga. Highway 92 south, police said.

Eric Jacob Moore, 25, is charged with two felony counts of obstructing a police officer, two felony counts of interference with government property, two misdemeanor counts of simple assault and one misdemeanor count of obstruction of a police officer.

Moore, who was belligerent and violent toward the two deputies, tried to flee the residence on foot when they caught him and put him under arrest, said Sgt. Belinda McCastle of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department. After he was put in a patrol car, however, Moore kicked out one of the windows, so deputies moved him to another patrol car for transport to the jail, McCastle said.

Moore then proceeded to kick out one of the windows of the second patrol car after he was put inside, McCastle added.
