3 PTC kids arrested for golf cart thefts after 2 caught on stolen cart near crime sceneBy JOHN MUNFORD
Three Peachtree City youths were arrested Monday evening for the theft of two golf carts after two of them were caught on a stolen golf cart near the city's BMX track where another stolen golf cart had been abandoned in a ditch, police said. The youths were stopped by the owner of the cart that was found in the ditch after he saw them driving erratically on the cart path, said Police Chief James Murray. "They were checking out the crime scene," Murray said, adding that more arrests are expected in connection with other golf cart thefts. The owner of the cart in the ditch called 911 to report the incident and kept the juveniles there until police arrived; the third juvenile came to the scene on a bike, Murray said. The kids told the victim they had bought the golf cart they were driving from a black man for $20, but police determined it had been stolen from the Heel Sew Quick store at the Braelinn Village shopping center, Murray said. Although the identities of the juveniles could not be released, Murray said they were: A 14-year-old who lives on Clydesdale Road. A 13-year-old who lives on Sweetwater Oaks. A 12-year-old who lives on Brookwood Path. All three juveniles were charged with theft of a motor vehicle, Murray said.
