Afternoon blaze damages Tyrone home Tuesday By JOHN
MUNFORD
No one was injured when a fire damaged a home on Crimson Ridge in Tyrone Tuesday afternoon. No one was home at the time the blaze was reported at 2:17 p.m. at 115 Crimson Ridge, officials said. It took Fayette County firefighters just over 40 minutes to get the fire under control and they were able to save the majority of the structure, said Deputy Chief Tom Bartlett of the Fayette County Department of Fire and Emergency Services. The fire began on the exterior of the home, but there is no way to determine what ignited the blaze, said Fayette County Fire Marshal David Scarbrough. The fire was fed by several broken down boxes by the homeowner, who had just moved in a week prior to the fire, Scarbrough said. There was no other possible ignition source around the area and there was no burglary or forced entry into the home, Scarbrough noted. "There is no evidence of foul play or any intentional act," Scarbrough said. The fire crept up the exterior wall on a side of the home that used to be a garage and was later converted to an interior room of the house, Scarbrough said. Firefighters broke through the roof to get access to the flames and keep them from spreading to the rest of the house, he added. "It was a good stop," Scarbrough said of the techniques that limited the fire damage. "... You try to get to the feet of the fire to be able to stop it."
