Riverdale police captain arrested by sheriff for urinating in public By JOHN
MUNFORD
A Riverdale police officer has been charged with four misdemeanors after he allegedly urinated in public at the Dixieland Fun Park in north Fayette County on Labor Day, police said. Carl Harvey Freeman, 47, of Riverdale was considered a fugitive after he failed to turn himself in late Tuesday afternoon as he had previously agreed to, said Sgt. Belinda McCastle of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department. Freeman later turned himself in to the Fayette County Jail Wednesday at 10:45 a.m., McCastle added. "We started looking for him late last night and into this morning before he turned himself in," McCastle said. Freeman is charged with public indecency, disorderly conduct, criminal trespassing and simple assault. Police said Freeman threatened the owner of the facility who confronted him after the owner spotted Freeman urinating into the pond around noon on Labor Day. An altercation then broke out between the two and Freeman was asked to leave although he initally refused to do so, McCastle said. By the time deputies arrived on the scene Freeman was gone, McCastle said. Freeman, who is the captain of the Riverdale Police Department's training unit, is on administrative leave without pay pending the resolution of the criminal charges, a spokesperson said. The department's internal investigations unit is also looking into the matter, police said. Fayette County Magistrate Charles Floyd allowed Freeman to be released on a personal recognizance bond without posting any cash or property.
