Training facility dedication next week

The public safety officials for Newnan and Coweta County will host a Dedication Ceremony and Grand Opening of the Newnan-Coweta Public Safety Training Facility Sept. 11 at 10 a.m.

The Public Safety Training Facility will offer public safety officials a place to advance and update their education in their profession.The complex includes a building with classrooms and offices, a burn tower and burn containers for firefighting training, and an asphalt pad for driving courses.

Located at 473 Greison Trail in Newnan, the facility is a joint venture between the Newnan and Coweta County. The participating agencies include the Coweta County Sheriff's Department, Newnan Police Department, Coweta County Fire Department, Newnan Fire Department, Coweta County Emergency Management Agency/9-1-1 and Newnan-Coweta Chapter of the American Red Cross.

The dedication ceremony will involve a flag run by local dignitaries and supporters that will begin at Newnan High Schoolat 9 a.m.and proceed through downtown Newnan to the Training Facility. At the Training Facility, the Newnan Police Department will present the colors, and a dedication ceremony will follow. After the ceremony, there will be training demonstrations and facility tours.

The ceremony will allow all parties involved to publicly and officially dedicate the facility to the community and citizens of Coweta Countyand to their public safety personnel.The ceremony will also allow the officials to use this opportunity to recognize all of those whose efforts have made it possible.Furthermore, a remembrance of the victims of Sept. 11, 2001, will be a part of the ceremony.

"I hope the public comes out to see what all the agencies have accomplished together.The facility will be beneficial to this community for many, many years. I feel like this is one of the nicest training facilities in this part of Georgia, and through collaboration of all agencies, we will continue to improve on it," said David Whitley, Chief of the Newnan Fire Department. "The dedication ceremony on Sept. 11 will allow us to thank all our public safety personnel and all the businesses who, through their generous donations, help make the facility what it is today."
