Walter Emerson Nolde


Walter Emerson Nolde, 83, Fayetteville, died Aug. 24, 2003. He was born Jan. 16, 1920, in Kansas City, Mo. He was preceded in death by his wife, Theresa Crutchfield Nolde. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #699, F&AM, Long Beach, Calif., and past president of the Long Beach Petroleum Club. He was a member of the Bixby Knolls Lions Club. Services were at the Fayetteville Christian Church with Minister Daniel Overdorf officiating. Interment was at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City. Survivors include sons, Norman and Sylvia Nolde, Fayetteville, and Gary and Shy Nolde, Corvallis, Ore.; grandchildren, Patricia and Tony Early, Norcross, Scott and Juliet Nolde, Halley, Ariz.; Emily M. Nolde, Elias R. Nolde, Jonah E. Nolde, and Sarah R. Nolde, all of Corvallis, Ore.; a great-grandchild, Carter E. Nolde; Halley, Ariz.; and nephews and nieces, Donna Wilson, Jerry Crutchfield, Hazel Marie Hansen. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville was in charge.

Martha E. Cheeks


Martha E. Cheeks, 75, Peachtree City, died Aug. 24, 2003. She was born Sept. 22, 1927 in Meriwether County, Ga. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold E. Cheek. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Bill DeLay officiating. Interment was at the Sharpsburg Baptist Church cemetery. Survivors include a daughter, Sandra N. Chitwood, Newnan; grandsons, John “Ricky” Chitwood, Charleston, S. C., and “Jimmy” Arnold Chitwood, Newnan; great-grandsons, Jacob Chitwood, and Emory Chitwood; brothers, P. J. Calhoun, Griffin, Ga., and Eddie Calhoun, Woodbury, Ga.; and a sister, Margie Caldwell, Douglasville, Ga. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Peachtree City, was in charge.

Virgie Earline Goodrum


Virgie Earline “Christine” Goodrum, 86, Fayetteville, die Aug. 24, 2003. She was born July 2, 1917, in LaFayette, Tenn. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles L. “Footes” Goodrum. They were the original owners of the Fayetteville Dairy Queen. Graveside services were at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City. Survivors include a son, Chuck Goodrum and his son, Christopher, daughter, Pat Owen, her husband, Larry, their children, Connie and Mark Wyzalek, their daughter, Leigh Wyzalek, and Cathey and David Hill and their sons. T. J. Hill and Tyler Hill, and a son, James L. Goodrum, his wife Brenda, and their children, Jeremy Williams, and Michelle Goodrum. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, was in charge.

Opal Ionia Brasseale White


Opal Ionia Brasseale White, 81, Tyrone, died Aug. 24, 2003. She was born May 10, 1922 in Blount County, Ala. She was preceded in death by her husband of 29 years, Thomas Parker White, parents, Luther and Myrtle Brasseale, a son, Tommy Lee White, and a great-granddaughter, Madeline Nicole Taylor. She had worked for Palmetto Manufacturing Company, and was a cottage parent at Georgia Baptist Children's Home, Meansville. She loved to sew and made several quilts. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with Roy Huggins, Tim Voyles and the Rev. Dr. Jim Burdett officiating. Survivors include a son, J. P. and Jerry White, and E. Ray White; a daughter, Ionia and Charles Taylor, Tyrone; sisters, Ruby Brown Self, Altoona, Ala., and Pearl Richey, Albertville, Ala.; an uncle, Arthur Stanfield, Snead, Ala.; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Mary Bridget North


Mary Bridget North, 76, Peachtree City, died Aug. 28, 2003. She was born Nov. 18, 1926 in Hudson County, N. J. She was preceded in death by her husband, John T. North. Memorial services were at the Braelinn Baptist Church with the Rev. Keith Moore officiating. Survivors include sons, Jack North, Charlottesville, Va., Jim and Robin North and Gary and Pam North all of Peachtree City; six grandchildren; and sisters, Helen Davis, Dover, Del., and Anne Martin, Summitt, N. J. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Peachtree City, was in charge.

Doris Williams


Doris Williams, 71, Fayetteville, died Aug. 29, 2003. She was born July 4, 1932 in Fayette County, the daughter of William "Bill" and Berta Jones Thornton. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Glenn Stringham officiating. Survivors include her husband, James Williams, Fayetteville; a son, Bobby and Gayle Williams, Santa Cruz, Calif.; a daughter, Nancy Williams, Forest Park; grandchildren, Bobby Williams Jr., Augusta, Sabrina Wagner, Atlanta, Shelly Scott, Milner, and Michael Hilley, Forest Park; a brother, Billy Thornton, Blairsville; and a sister, Margie Odom, Fayetteville. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, was in charge.

Mildred M Chester


Mildred M. Chester, 80, Jonesboro, died Aug. 31, 2003. She was born Dec. 21, 1922 in Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Hightower Chester, in 1988. Services were at the Whitestone Baptist Church, Pickens County, Ga., with interment at the church cemetery. Survivors include a daughter, Brenda and Rendley Norris, Fayette County; a grandson, Brian Norris, Fayette County; a granddaughter, Christy and Brian Anderson, East Cobb; great-grandsons, Taylor Anderson, and Benjamin Anderson; brothers, Brent and Mildred Mosley, Elijay, Jack and Joni Sue Mosley, Macon, and Jerry Mosley, Suches; a sister, Linda and Bill Coleman, Whitestone; and a sister-in-law, Janis Mosley, Whitestone.
