Qualifying period nears for Fville council, mayor posts

For anyone wishing to throw their hat into Fayetteville city politics, the time is nearing to sign up.

Qualifying for the office of mayor and two council posts begins Monday, Sept. 8, at 8:30 a.m. and ends Wednesday, Sept. 10, at 4:30 p.m.

Qualifying fees for mayor are $288 and $180 for each of the council posts. Mayor Ken Steele and councilman Glenn Brewer have indicated their intentions to run again, and councilman Bill Talley hasn't yet decided whether he will seek re-election.

The deadline to register to vote in Fayetteville for the Nov. 4 election will be Monday, Oct. 6, at 5 p.m.

Candidates must be at least 21 years old, have lived in the city for at least one year and be registered to vote in Fayetteville, said City Clerk Judy Stephens.
