Daniel Lee Sanford


Daniel Lee Sanford, 87, Union City, formerly of East Point, died Aug. 17, 2003. He was born Nov. 12, 1915 in Clanton, Ala. He was retired from the State of Georgia. Graveside services were at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, College Park with the Rev. Dennis Watson officiating. Survivors include nephews Mr. and Mrs. Lee Williams, Lilburn, Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Williams, Fayetteville, and Mr. and Mrs. Roger Williams, Douglasville. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, was in charge.

Chester Eubanks Sr.


Chester Eubanks Sr., 73, Molena, died Aug. 17, 2003. He was born July 22, 1930 in Pike County. He was retired from the City of Fayetteville Police Department. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dannie Ruth Eubanks, and a grandson, Jeremy Eubanks. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Ed Lynch officiating. Interment was at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville, with full police escort. Survivors include children, Chester Eubanks Jr., and Dean Martin Eubanks, both of Molena, John D. Eubanks, Concord, Gerald W. Eubanks, Woolsey, Jerry F. Eubanks, Williamson, Teresa Jean Betsill, Clayton County, and Mike Eugene Betsill, Trenton, Ga.; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, was in charge.

Emma Jeannette Luke


Emma Jeanette “Peggy” Luke, 76, Stockbridge, died Aug. 17, 2003. She was born Oct. 14, 1926 in Fulton County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Hobson Luke Jr. She was retired in 1983 as a customer service supervisor from the Atlanta Gas Light Company. She was a long-time member of Bouldercrest Baptist Church, Ellenwood. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Ed Galbreath officiating. Interment was at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, Jonesboro. Survivors include a son, John and Scarlet Luke, Gainesville; daughters, Carol and Johnny Jones, Jonesboro, and Shelley and Steve White, Fayetteville; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Kathy G. Gradolph


Kathy G. Gradolph, 45, Fayetteville, died Aug. 19, 2003. She was born Nov. 22, 1957 in Waukegan, Ill. She was a graduate of Piedmont Hospital School of Nursing, and was employed there for 25 years. She was an avid gardener, and lover of pets. Services were at the Carmichael-Hemperley chapel with Chaplain Larry Connelly officiating. Survivors include her husband, Mark R. Gradolph, Fayetteville; children, Lindsey Anne Gradolph and Zachary Alexander Gradolph, both of Fayetteville; her mother, Ruby Gibbs, Douglasville; and a brother, David Michael Gibbs, Benicia, Calif. Memorial donations may be made to Kathy’s Kids Scholarship Fund, Piedmont Hospital Credit Union, 1968 Peachtree Road, NE, Atlanta, GA 30309. Evelyn K. Overton


Evelyn K. Overton, 85, Fayetteville, died Aug. 20, 2003. She was born June 14, 1918 in Bardstown, Ky. She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Jack H. Overton. Services were at the Fayetteville First Baptist Church, Overton Chapel, with the Rev. Frank Ellis, the Rev. Glenn Stringham, and the Rev. Dale Weldon officiating. Survivors include her daughter, Patricia and Don Oberg, Fayetteville; a sister, Marsha Reinle, Bardstown, Ky.; and a sister-in-law, Celia Keeling. Adele McCreary


Adele “Dell” McCreary, 81, Peachtree City, died Aug. 20, 2003. She was born July 26, 1922 in New Zealand. She was preceded in death by her husband, “Mr. Mac” McCreary, in 1999. A true Kiwi from New Zealand, she moved to Peachtree City in 1969 and worked at NCR for 15 years. At her request, there was not a service. Survivors include children, Craig, Brian, and Deb; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a sister in California. Memorial donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation of Georgia, 2951 Flowers Road South, Suite 211, Atlanta, GA 30341. Metro Crematory, Peachtree City, was in charge.

Bennie Lawrence Stanley


Bennie Lawrence Stanley, 76, Morrow, died Aug. 20, 2003. He was born May 13, 1927 in Fayette County, the son of William Claud and Decie Jane Nipper Stanley. He was a veteran of the United States Army and retired from Overnite Transportation with 37 years of service as a driver. He was a member of First Christian Church of Tyrone for over 40 years. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with Minister Billy Rowe officiating. Interment was at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville. Survivors include his wife, Lucy Jane Shelton Stanley, Morrow; daughters, Nancy Stanley Callahan, Lovejoy, Lisa Stanley Skinner, Stockbridge, and Jennifer M. Stanley, Morrow; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Walter and Dot Stanley, Fayetteville; a sister, Margaret Davis, Fayetteville; and sisters-in-law, Irene Stanley Purcell and Louise Stanley, both of Fayetteville. Mary Nininger Goodman


Mary Nininger Goodman, 81, Peachtree City, died Aug. 21, 2003. She was born Nov. 2, 1921. Memorial services were at the Peachtree City Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Sandi Wilmesherr and the Rev. Dr. Richard A. Dodds officiating. Survivors include her husband, Leonard John Goodman, Peachtree City; daughters, Dr. Katherine Goodman, Natick, Mass., and Jean Ciochon, Bellingham, Wash.; and a granddaughter, Jennifer Ciochon, Bellingham, Wash. Samuel B. Turner


Samuel B. “Sam” Turner, 73, Gay, Meriwether County, Ga., formerly of Fayetteville, died Aug 22, 2003. He was born May 21, 1930 in Fayette County, the son of Thomas Grady and Emma Jane Darnell Turner. He was active in community affairs in Fayette County, and was a charter member of the Fayette County Historical Society. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Matt Hinesley and Chaplain Jim Hilderbrand officiating. Interment was at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Dorothy Lee Fleming Turner, Gay; sons, Steve and Sharon Turner, Gay, and Mark and Toni Turner, Fayetteville; a daughter, Rhonda and Thomas Robinson, Gay; grandchildren, Jodey, Kenyon, Sam, Katelyn, and Hannah; and three sisters. Hazel B. Smith


Hazel B. Smith, 86, Lafayette, Colo., died Aug. 22, 2003. She was born Dec. 18, 1916 in Hardy, Ark. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Vernon C. Smith, in 1995. She had been active in several churches and taught preschool for many years at Roswell Street Baptist Church, Marietta. She was currently a member of the First Baptist Church, Peachtree City. Graveside services were at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City, with the Rev. Kenneth Brown officiating. Survivors include a son, Bob and Dawn Tomassoni Smith, Lafayette, Colo.; daughters, Nancy and Don Mitchell, Charleston, Ark., and Sharon and Jimmy Faris, Wellington, Kan.; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Gerald Croom, Portland, Ore.; and a sister, Emma Lee and Louis Kotnick, and their son, Kevin, Clinton, Iowa. Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home, Peachtree City, was in charge.
