Fville pub, restaurant plans scrapped after residents' outcry

Developers have withdrawn plans to build a restaurant and pub on Ga. Highway 314 in Fayetteville that drew the ire of residents in nearby subdivisions.

Residents had complained that the sale of alcohol at the planned Loco's Deli and Pub would have created noise and trash nuisances in addition to causing safety problems.

The subdivisions that would have been affected are actually in the county's jurisdiction. But that didn't stop residents from appearing en masse at several meetings of the Fayetteville Planning and Zoning Commission when the site plans were discussed.

City officials also took the stance that the site for the restaurant was located too close to the property line of a nearby residence and thus it would not have qualified for a license to sell alcohol anyway.

Establishments wishing to serve alcohol must be at least 200 yards away from the nearest residence and school and at least 100 yards away from the nearest church, according to city ordinance. The distance is measured from the front door of the establishment to the property line of the affected parcel.
