Neighborhood watch program touted by county sheriff's office

The Fayette County Sheriff's Department is offering a neighborhood watch program for homeowners associations to help citizens combat crime in their neighborhood.

The program is designed to train residents how to observe and report suspicious activities in the neighborhood. Participants will learn what information an officer needs when a crime is reported and why that information is necessary.

Knowing your neighbors is an important feature and benefit of the program, police said.

Literature providing instructional information about this program is available at the sheriff's department at 155 Johnson Ave. in Fayetteville.

For more information on setting up a neighborhood watch program, contact Capt. Mike Hattaway at the sheriff's department at 770-461-6353.
