Charges have been filed against two Riverdale men for attempting to rob a woman at gunpoint at a Fayetteville ATM last week, according to police.

And one of the suspects in the attempted armed robbery has also been charged with the armed robbery of a north Fayette convenience store three nights earlier, police said.

The two suspects tried to rob a Hampton woman at the Bank of America on Ga. Highway 314 after 10:30 p.m. Aug. 19, police said. But the victim sped away after one of the suspects approached her car and tapped on her window with the gun, and she drove to the fire and police station at the Fayette Pavilion to report the crime, according to police reports.

The weapon turned out to be a BB gun that gave the appearance it was a real handgun, police said.

Joseph Jamar Olley, 17, and Gary Butler, 20, were arrested by Clayton County police the morning after the ATM robbery attempt after an armed robbery that occurred there, said Lt. Beverly Trainor of the Fayetteville Police Department.

The victim identified Olley and Butler as the two men she encountered at the ATM, Trainor said. When Olley and Butler were arrested by Clayton County, they were caught driving a white Chrysler Sebring similar to the one described by the victim, Trainor added.

Olley and Butler were charged with criminal attempt to commit armed robbery for the Fayetteville incident, with Olley also charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Butler is charged with armed robbery for the holdup at Coleman's. Police said he and another suspect entered the store at closing time, with one producing a gun and demanding the clerk to hand over the money, said Sgt. Dwayne Prosser of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department. The store clerk complied and the suspects left the store on foot, leaving the area in what was described as a white car, police said.

According to arrest warrants, the suspects got away with roughly $300 in cash from the Coleman's incident.
