Joseph Franklin Landrum Jr.


Joseph Franklin “J. J.” Landrum Jr., 24, Fayetteville, died Aug. 9, 2003. He was born Sept. 18, 1978 in Fayette County. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Franklin Landrum Sr. He was an airman in the United States Navy, having served aboard the U.S.S. Kitty Hawk. Services were at the Fayetteville Christian Church, where he was a member. Minister Daniel Overdorf officiated with interment at Holly Hill Memorial Park, Fairburn. Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Sandra Landrum and William Hammock, Fayetteville; a sister, Kelly Moeckel and Keith Wilson, Fairmount, Ga.; nephews, Drew Wilson, and Brad Wilson, Fairmont, Ga.; a niece, Kinsey Wilson, Fairmount, Ga.; and a stepbrother, Will Hammock, Hampton, Ga. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 135 Bradford Square, Fayetteville, GA. 30214. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, was in charge.

Mariette Sievers


Mariette Sievers, 57, Fayetteville, died Aug. 9, 2003. She was born Jan. 20, 1946 in Scheessel, Germany. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Justin Kollmeyer officiating. Survivors include her husband, Wolfram Sievers, Fayetteville; sons, Brian Sievers, McDonough, and Alan Sievers, Fayetteville; grandchildren, Jariette Sievers, Trenton Sievers, and Kendall Sievers; and a sister, Monica Schumacher, Long Island, N.Y. Frances Vernice Sherman


Frances Vernice Sherman, 85, Fayetteville, died Aug. 9, 2003. She was born May 15, 1918 in New York. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Samuel Sherman. She was an artist who was employed as a newspaper editor, and retired as a banker in Morristown, N. J. She enjoyed camping, boating, homemaking, playing Scrabble and was a Braves fan. A memorial service was held at the Carl J. Mowell chapel. Survivors include a son, Gary and Sue Conte Sherman, Tallahassee, Fla.; daughters, Gayle and Henry Ackerman, Galloway, N. J., Lyndy and Joe Ricupero, Waterbury, Conn., and Laurie and Lem Connatser, Fayetteville; grandchildren, Brian Roberts, Tim Ackerman, Scott Ackerman, Tracey Ackerman Kloes, Adam Connatser, and Emily Connatser; great-grandchildren, Harris Roberts, Holt Roberts, and Makayla Kloes; a brother, Robert and Flo Hunt, Florida; and sisters, Betty Broadfoot, and Jean and Jim Bowen, all of New York. Danielle Henry


Danielle Henry, 17, Douglasville, died Aug. 9, 2003. She was born March 14, 1986 in Clayton County. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Nolan Holland. Services were at the Jeff Eberhart Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Ron Stribling officiating. Survivors include her father and stepmother, William Ray “Bill” and Jan Henry, Douglasville; mother, Kimberly Ann Holland Gauthier, Fayetteville; brothers, Joel Henry and Brad Henry, both of Douglasville; stepsisters, Andrea Kobeissi and Sarah Kobeissi, both of Douglasville; paternal grandfather and step-grandmother, Ray and Barbara Henry, Greensboro, N. C.; paternal grandmother, Sally Scolton, Jamestown, N. Y.; maternal grandmother, Dorothy Holland, Franklin, N. C.; maternal step-grandmother, Marguerite Holland, Palm Beach, Fla.; paternal step-grandfather, Ernest Prince. Jeff Eberhart Funeral Home, Dallas, Ga. was in charge.

Andrew River Ouzts


Andrew River Ouzts, infant, died Aug. 10, 2003. He was born July 26, 2003 in Clayton County. Services were at the Bethany United Methodist Church, Fayetteville, with the Rev. Maria Wells officiating. Interment was at the church cemetery. Surviving are his parents, Andrew and Whitney Cochran Ouzts, Fayetteville; brothers, Taylor James Cochran Ouzts and Chandler Gordon Ouzts, both of Fayetteville; grandparents, David and Kathie Cochran, and James and Janet Ouzts, all of Fayetteville; and great-grandparents, James and Pauline Bullard, Union City, and J. Earle and Evelyn Ouzts, Columbia, S. C. Higgins Hillcrest Chapel, Newnan, was in charge.

William Kruppenbacher


William Kruppenbacher, 85, Peachtree City, died Aug. 10, 2003. He was born June 16, 1918 in Yonkers, N. Y. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Rosemarie Woram Kruppenbacher, who died in 2000, his parents, William A. and Marie Kruppenbacher, a brother, Ernest, SR. M. Teresa Leonard, Marie McCourt, and Rose McGillycuddy. He was graduated from Yonkers High School in 1936 and the Stinson School of Aviation in 1938 with an A & E License. He taught at the local agricultural college. He served in the United States Marines in the 5th Marine Division in World War II. He was wounded in combat in Iwo Jima and received a purple heart. He was also a part of the United States Occupation force in Japan. A memorial mass was held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Peachtree City, and will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery, Washington, D. C., at a later date. Survivors include children, William Kruppenbacher, Fairfield , Conn., Rosemarie Matos, Peachtree City, and Frank Kruppenbacher, Orlando, Fla.; and six grandchildren. Prudence Valvo


Prudence Valvo, 83, Peachtree City, formerly of Hawthorne, N. Y., died Aug 10, 2003. She was born July 1, 1920 in the Bronx, N. Y. She was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Valvo. She was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hawthorne. Memorial services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel. Survivors include her husband, Eugene R. Valvo, Peachtree City; a son, Gary and Deb Valvo, Peachtree City; grandchildren, Dylan Valvo, Anne Ellyse Valvo, and Michael Valvo, all of Peachtree City; brothers, Michel DiGianni and John DiGianni, both of New York; and a sister, Lydia Scalafani, New York. Helen L. Jewell


Helen L. Jewell, 76, Fayetteville, died Aug. 11, 2003. She was born March 8, 1927 in Hapeville, Fulton County, Ga. She was preceded in death by her father, Neill Leach, and mother, Irene Pierce. She retired in 1986 after 25 years with GTE/Sylvania. Graveside services were at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville. Survivors include her husband, Harold D. Jewell; children, Lynn Hembree, Chip Nelson, and Jamie Crane; a stepson, Delaney Jewell Jr.; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and her dog, Molly. Carl J. Mildred Corpening


Mildred Corpening, 75, Newnan, died Aug. 11, 2003. She was born June 10, 1928 in Gainsboro, Tenn. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Fredrick Corpening. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Tom Daugherty officiating. Interment was at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City. Survivors include a son, Mark A. Corpening, Jacksonville, Fla.; daughters, Diana and Charles McCusker, Peachtree City, and Gail and Curt Collson, Sterling Heights, Mich.; granddaughters, Cindy and Jeff Rembisz, and Summer McCusker, all of Peachtree City, and Sarah McCusker, Oxford, Miss.; great-grandchildren, Skylar Rembisz, and Logan Rembisz; brothers, Ernest Johnson, and Haskel Johnson, both of Cooksville, Tenn.; and a sister, Ruby Coffmann, Cooksville, Tenn. James Davis McGee


James Davis “Jim” McGee, 72, Fayetteville, died Aug. 14, 2003. He was born Aug. 23, 1930 in New Smyrna Beach, Volusia County, Fla. and reared in Oak Hill, Fla. He served in the United States Navy as a naval aviator from 1951 to 1955. He received his bachelors and masters degree in Civil Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1958 and 1960. He served as Director of Planning and Programming and State Highway Maintenance engineer. He began a 34-year career with the Georgia Department of Transportation in 1958 and became Deputy Commissioner in 1987. Upon retiring in 1989 he began a second career in consulting engineering and in 2002 co-founded McGee Partners, Inc. Services were at the Fayetteville First Baptist Church with the Rev. Glenn Stringham, and the Rev. Frank Ellis officiating. Remains were flown to Florida where graveside services were at the Oak Hill Cemetery, New Smyrna Beach. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Eve H. McGee, Fayetteville; sons, James Michael “Mickey” McGee, and Davis Alan and Jennifer McGee; a daughter, Kelley and Palmer Boykin; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandson; and his identical twin, William “Bill” McGee, Oak Hill, Fla. Brian John Palmitessa


Brian John Palmitessa, 47, Peachtree City, died Aug. 14, 2003. He was born July 13, 1956 in Biddeford, Maine. Memorial services were at the Peachtree City First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Chuck Hodges officiating. Palmitessa had served on the Development Authority of Peachtree City since April of 2001. In a press release issued Tuesday, Peachtree City Mayor Steve Brown issued the following statement: “The Mayor and City Council of Peachtree City wish to extend their deepest sympathies to the Palmitessa family following the death of Brian Palmitessa on Thursday, August 14, 2003. ... On behalf of the City Council and the citizens of the community, we offer our thoughts, prayers and condolences to Holly Palmitessa, their two children, and their family following Brian’s loss. Brian committed himself to devoted service to Peachtree City through his volunteer efforts on the authority, and we thank his family for sharing him with the community. Brian was a wonderful neighbor, an extremely loving husband and dedicated father as well as an outstanding authority member. He will be greatly missed.” Survivors include his wife, Holly Palmitessa, Peachtree City; daughters, Elan Palmitessa, and Aisha Palmitessa, both of Peachtree City; parents, Arthur and Estelle Palmitessa, Stroudsburg, Pa.; and a brother, Glenn Palmitessa, Stroudsburg, Pa.
